Our program has improved child attendance in school, here’s why!

October is Hunger Awareness Month and a reminder to everyone at Back Packs for Kids of why we do what we do.

No child should ever have to worry about where their next meal will come from. We currently serve about 450 pre-kindergarten to high school students throughout Klickitat County. Ready-to-eat food provided to these children by Back Packs for Kids, through the generosity of donors, helped to fill the gaps.

The Impact

Local school administrators and staff are enthusiastic about the benefits of the program. They report improvement in student attendance and a rise in parental involvement in school activities. Proper nutrition is a well-documented factor in brain and body development.

Adequate food resources need to be available to every child every single day. We need your support to continue providing children across the county with food for the weekend.

Since it began eight years ago, the number of participating students has increased each year. Now, Back Packs for Kids is off and running for the 2015-16 school year and we anticipate delivery of more than 450 bags to five Klickitat County school districts and two head start programs each week.

The Breakdown

This number brings our budgetary need to $45,000 for the school year. We hope you are willing and able to assist us with a tax-deductible contribution. $120 covers the cost of food for one child over the course of one school year.
